About the Europe Map Quiz

The Europe Map Quiz tests your ability to locate all 44 European countries on an interactive map. From large nations like France and Germany to microstates like Vatican City and Andorra, this quiz covers every country on the continent.

You can play in four modes. Click the Map gives you a country name and asks you to click its location. Name It highlights a country and gives you four options to choose from. Speed Run keeps the countries coming every 5 seconds until you miss one. And the Daily Challenge gives you 10 countries that are the same for every player in the world.

Whether you are a student studying for a geography exam, a teacher looking for classroom tools, or someone who loves daily geography games, this quiz is designed to help you learn by playing.

Which European countries do people miss the most?

Europe packs more countries per square kilometer than any other continent, and many of them are genuinely hard to place on a map. Based on quiz data, the most commonly missed European countries are Moldova, Liechtenstein, San Marino, Andorra, North Macedonia, and Montenegro. The Balkan region in southeastern Europe is the hardest cluster — Bosnia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Albania, and Serbia are tightly packed with confusing borders.

The Baltic trio (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) also causes problems. Most people know they are in northeastern Europe but cannot remember which one is which from north to south. The trick is alphabetical order matches geographical order from south to north: Lithuania is south, Latvia is middle, Estonia is north.

Tips for Scoring 100% on the Europe Map Quiz

  • Learn by sub-region: Break Europe into four blocks — Northern, Western, Southern, and Eastern — and master one before moving to the next. Start with Western Europe (France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, etc.) because most people already know several of these.
  • Tackle the Balkans last: The Balkans are the hardest sub-region in Europe. Seven countries (Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia) share a tangled border zone. Learn them as a group by starting from Slovenia in the northwest and working southeast.
  • Know your microstates: Europe has six microstates: Vatican City (inside Rome), Monaco (on the French coast), San Marino (inside Italy), Liechtenstein (between Austria and Switzerland), Malta (island south of Sicily), and Andorra (between France and Spain). They are easy to miss on a map because of their tiny size, but they appear on every quiz.
  • Use our quiz modes strategically: Start with Name It mode (multiple choice) to build familiarity. Switch to Click the Map once you feel confident. Use Speed Run to drill speed. And play the Daily Challenge to build a consistent daily habit.
